Background: Scaling Financial Advisory Services for High-Growth Startups
A growing finance, accounting, and strategy firm partnered with South to expand its Financial Advisory practice. The firm supports startups in scaling efficiently and sustainably, providing hands-on financial modeling, reporting, and strategic insights to founders and leadership teams.
As client demand increased, the firm needed to add senior-level financial talent that could operate autonomously, engage directly with clients, and deliver high-quality financial analysis across multiple engagements.
Rather than hiring locally in the U.S. at a significantly higher cost, the firm turned to South to identify senior financial professionals in LATAM with strong technical expertise, excellent English communication skills, and experience working with international clients.
The Challenge: Client-Facing Senior Talent With High Autonomy
The client needed Senior Financial Analysts who could fully own a demanding, client-facing role. The ideal candidates had to:
- Confidently participate in client meetings and financial discussions
- Deliver and interpret complex financial results for founders and executives
- Operate autonomously with minimal oversight
- Be fully bilingual and comfortable working in English
- Support startups with forward-looking analysis and strategic decision-making
This was not an execution-only role. The analysts needed strong judgment, the ability to “tell the story” behind the numbers, and experience working with fast-paced startup environments across different industries.
Role Requirements & Responsibilities
The Senior Financial Analyst role focused on advisory-driven financial analysis and reporting. Key responsibilities included:
- Developing assumptions-driven financial models to forecast company performance, assess headcount and resource needs, manage runway, and plan fundraising
- Preparing and presenting comprehensive monthly financial reports for multiple clients, including full financial statements, trend analysis, budget vs. actuals, and key metrics
- Building financial dashboards and visualizations to communicate results clearly and effectively
- Performing ad-hoc analysis on pricing strategy, margin sensitivity, and cash burn scenarios
- Ensuring all forward-looking models were investor-ready and easy to interpret
Technical skills required:
SAP, Oracle, Calipso, QuickBooks
The ideal candidates also needed 7+ years of experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting, strong advanced Excel skills, and the confidence to communicate with Managers, Controllers, CFOs, and business owners.
The Solution: Two Senior Financial Analysts Hired Through South
South managed the hiring process end-to-end, including:
- LATAM senior talent sourcing
- Financial and analytical skill vetting
- English proficiency assessment
- Multi-stage interview coordination
- Compliance, contracting, and payroll setup
While South typically completes hires within 21 days, this engagement required a longer process. The client ran an extended interview cycle with multiple assessment stages to ensure a strong long-term fit. The full process took just over one month.
Today, both analysts are fully embedded in the client’s advisory practice, and the partnership has been running successfully for some time.
