Frequently Asked Questions:

What does an SEO Specialist do?

An SEO Specialist owns a site's organic search performance: keyword research, on-page optimization, technical audits, internal linking, content briefs, and link building. They live in Google Search Console, Ahrefs or Semrush, Screaming Frog, and a CMS. The job mixes analysis (find the gaps), strategy (decide what to build), and execution (ship the changes). Good SEO compounds; great SEO compounds faster than anyone else's.

How much does it cost to hire an SEO Specialist?

The average U.S. SEO Specialist earns $6,200 per month compared with an average Latin American salary of $2,000 per month, creating potential savings of up to 68%. LatAm has a strong SEO bench, many trained on agency teams that ran content programs for U.S. clients across e-commerce, SaaS, and lead-gen verticals.

Can a U.S.-based company hire a remote SEO Specialist from Latin America?

Yes. South contracts locally, handles payroll and compliance, and bills monthly. Your SEO joins Google Search Console, Ahrefs, GA4, your CMS, and Slack on day one. Time-zone overlap means content briefs, technical fixes, and weekly performance reviews happen in real time without async delay.

What skills should I look for when hiring an SEO Specialist?

Three core areas: technical (crawl, index, schema, Core Web Vitals), content (briefs, intent matching, internal linking), and analysis (GSC, GA4, Ahrefs). Push them to walk through a site they took from low traffic to meaningful organic, with the specific tactics they used. Avoid generalists who can only quote best practices; hire operators who have actually moved a metric.

What tools and software should an SEO Specialist know?

Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs or Semrush, Screaming Frog, and one CMS (WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, or HubSpot CMS). Add Surfer or Clearscope for content optimization, Looker Studio for reporting, and basic SQL or BigQuery for log analysis. JavaScript SEO awareness (rendering, hydration, indexing) is a plus for modern frameworks.

How is an SEO Specialist different from a Content Marketing Specialist?

SEO Specialists optimize for search engines: keywords, technical health, on-page structure, links. Content Marketers think about story, audience, and brand voice. The Venn diagram overlaps in keyword-driven blog content, but a pure SEO won't write conversion copy and a pure Content Marketer will not audit your hreflang. Hire both if you can. If you have to pick one, hire SEO when traffic is the bottleneck, Content when conversion is.

How can South help me hire an SEO Specialist?

South screens LatAm SEO talent on real audits and case studies, not just resumes. You see a shortlist within a week, run interviews with technical task review, and onboard in two weeks. South handles contracting, payments, and replacement. Schedule a free call here to get started!

Success Stories:

Interview Questions:

  • Walk me through the last site you took from X to Y in organic traffic. What were the three biggest moves?
  • I give you a brand-new domain in a competitive niche. What do you do in week one?
  • Diagnose: a page lost 60 percent of its traffic overnight. What do you check first?
  • Explain how you build a topical cluster. Pillar content, internal links, briefs.
  • How do you decide whether to merge two competing pages or differentiate them?
  • What is your process for a technical SEO audit? Top 10 checks in order.
  • Show me a content brief you wrote. What is in it and why?
  • How do you measure whether a backlink is worth pursuing?
  • Explain Core Web Vitals. Which metric is hardest to fix and why?
  • What is the difference between a soft 404 and a real 404, and how do you handle each?

Frequently asked questions

Why hire in Latin America?

The region has the perfect mix of everything you want in remote employees: English skills, shared time zones, hard-working, and depth of talent. They are already accustomed to working remotely for top US startups and Fortune 500 companies.

Can they work my time zone?

Absolutely! The US and Latin America have basically the same time zones. No Latin American city is more than two hours ahead of EST.

What tasks can they do? What roles can I hire for?

Every hire is sourced based on your exact needs. They will arrive ready to support your business right away. They can do basically any tasks done remotely, but we recommend starting them as support so your team has more bandwidth for high-value strategic tasks.

All types of roles - customer service, executive assistant, sales, accounting, email marketing, lead generation, content writers, operations, social media marketing, and more!

How do I pay them? Any tax or visa issues?

You can pay directly through us (most popular) or we can connect you with one of our payroll partners.

You don't have to deal with any American labor laws / taxes when hiring full-time remote contractors. They aren't US-based, so no visas or sponsorships to deal with either.

What does this cost?

We recommend market pay which varies for each role. See our salary guide and success stories for some ideas.

Then, we have two different models:

Staffing (most popular) - We charge a small monthly fee for each employee's monthly salary to make the process hassle-free. The fee covers sourcing, recruiting, admin, payroll, compliance, ongoing support, and a free replacement if necessary at any point. There are no cancellation fees or minimum commitments. You only pay if you make a hire.

Headhunting - A one-time simple fee once we've found the perfect candidate. This comes with a 120-day replacement guarantee.

For both options, you only pay something if we find you someone great that you want to hire.

Do I have to hire full-time?

Yes, we only recruit for full-time and we strongly recommend full-time hiring if you can. Stability (full-time & long-term) is highly sought after abroad. The top caliber candidates are only looking for full-time work.

You're also going to spend time training and getting them up to speed on your processes. It would be a waste to do that over and over again with new people all the time.

Do I have to hire for an individual role or can they handle multiple roles?

We recommend training new hires on one thing at a time.

For example, once they get up to speed on lead generation, you can add the next role writing blog posts or whatever you'd like. You can definitely overlap roles until you have enough work for multiple people.

How can they be 70% less?

The cost of living is much less in Latin American countries. Many of our employees are able to own homes, raise families, provide for their parents, and have in-home help of their own with their salaries.

How does the money-back guarantee work?

If you aren't happy with your hire in the first 120 days, we will work with you to conduct a second round of search for the same role for free.

How do I reach out if I have a question?
